Calendar and Contacts

If you are no fan of syncing through iCloud (or other cloud services that offer syncing like Google and Yahoo), or the fact you simply don’t have a choice since 10.9 Mavericks was released, you can use your own OS X server instead. You can keep your syncing entirely local if you don’t want your calendars or contacts traveling across the internet but you’ll get the most from it by making this service internet accessible. Since you have your own trusted certificates set up the SSL connection you use with services like these can be trusted even when syncing over the internet. You control the server, the Mac or iOS device, the certificates… you are in full control of your data.

Enabling the Calendar and Contacts services is as easy as flipping the switch to “On”. No further configuration is required. You can enable Push Notifications if you want but I’ll cover those later on.

Were you expecting more? Sorry! That’s how easy it is! 🙂
