Mail? I thought Notes were next? Correct, in order for Notes syncing to work you’ll need to set up the Mail service. Luckily you can have the basic Mail service for Notes syncing without the hassle of running an actual E-Mail service. With minimal configuration the Mail service will sync your Notes and that’s all we’re after. I do not recommend setting up an actual E-Mail server as you’ll need good hardware, a great and reliable internet connection and a lot more to make it work and keep it working smooth. Leave E-Mail to the pros.
To get started, like other services flip the switch to “On”. Right away, click the “Edit Filtering Settings” button and disable virus filtering. Leave the other settings as is and click OK.
You can leave virus filtering on if it makes you feel better but it will take significantly longer to set up the service and will increase the load on the server. As you won’t be dealing with actual emails and potentially harmful attachments you can safely leave virus filtering off.
Next, click the “Edit” button next to Authentication. From the drop down menu select “Open Directory”. This will fill out the right authentication options automatically. Click OK when done.
That wraps up Mail (Notes). Next up is Software Update.

Now, however, after following your instructions above regarding Mail (Notes) setup, and trying to figure this out for 3 days on my own, I need to ask for your help.
Sync is working for Calendars, Reminders, Contacts, but not for Notes.
My Mac Notes.app shows connectivity to OS X Server;
My iphone Notes.app shows connectivity to syncserver.local;
I believe they may be the same account (just showing with different names for whatever reason) but they will not sync.
Please provide any additional details to your post above which might help me.
